EMDR Treats PTSD for Veterans.

Podcast interview with Mark Meincke: Operation Tango Romeo, the Trauma Recovery Podcast

Cumulative operational disturbing experiences over time can lead to post-traumatic symptoms. These symptoms are psychological injuries that worsen over time without treatment.

If you are a veteran struggling with PTSD, EMDR can help.
EMDR resolves PTSD symptoms like:
  • Flashbacks
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Hyper-vigilance
  • Hypo arousal
  • Not feeling
  • Feeling too much
  • Anger
  • Depression

Early Treatment ( EMDR) Prevents Worsening of Post Trauma Symptoms.

Getting EMDR treatment for PTSD as early as possible helps prevent symptoms from getting worse. When symptoms worsen, a soldier tries to avoid reminders of the original event(s) by isolating themselves away from friends and loved ones.

 Veterans and Moral Injury

Moral injury occurs when:
  • A soldier goes against their moral beliefs to follow through on an order.
  • A soldier is not able to follow through on the mission
  • Fails to act causing harm to another.
  • A soldier feels betrayed by their leader, peers or unit, a moral injury

Veterans’ Moral Injury and Feelings

A soldier with a moral injury can experience feelings of shame, guilt, and anger.

Sometimes a moral injury can cause a person to question the meaning of life.
Speaking about a moral injury in a safe place can help process these negative feelings.

Military Sexual Trauma

Many members of the Canadian Armed Forces have been subjected to sexual harassment and Sexual Abuse. See my post on Sex & Abuse of Power Sex & Abuse of Power  and my blog post on  Military Sexual Trauma

EMDR can help release negative emotions that were suppressed at the time of the experience(s). EMDR helps the brain recognize that the trauma is over and helps with eliminating triggers that are still connected to the original traumatic experience.
