What’s the difference between Basic Training and Certification?
Basic Training serves as the foundation for practicing EMDR
Certification = advanced level of skill and recognition after consultation, case practice, and evaluation.
Do I need consultation to get certified?
Yes. EMDRIA requires 20 hours of consultation. Consultation is where you:
Refine your skills with feedback.
Strengthen your case conceptualization.
Gain confidence in handling complex cases and diverse populations.
How long does EMDR Certification take?
On average 12–24 months, depending on your caseload and pace of consultation.
Do I have to be certified to practice EMDR?
No. You may practice EMDR once you’ve completed Basic Training. Certification is optional, but it demonstrates advanced competency and helps you stand out.
How do I apply for EMDR Certification?
You’ll apply directly through EMDRIA. Your consultant verifies your consultation hours and provides a recommendation letter.
EMDR Certification can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone. With the right consultation, you’ll build a strong EMDR practice, especially working with complex trauma.
